Academy Outcomes Assessment – 2015

Pursuant to NACCAS, Standard 1, an institution must assess the achievements of its programs and students on the basis of pass rates on examinations for licensure (70% minimum), placement rates for those who took the licensing exam (60% minimum), and program completion rates (50% minimum).

The Virginia School of Hair Design is proud to announce that it exceeds the required benchmarks set by NACCAS with the following rates:

The average percent of program completers scheduled to complete in the calendar year 2015 Annual Reporting period was 74.42%. The average percent of those that took the exam in 2015 for Licensure, and passed, was 100%, and the percentage of those who were placed in jobs related to the field in which they received their license was 71.88%. (The 2016 Calendar year rates are not available until November 30, 2017). The rates are calculated from January 1st – December 31st of current year.

Student Right to Know Act

The amendment of 1998 (U.S. Department of Education/Federal Regulations) require that Students Right to Know disclosures of completion rates and transfer-out rates, be by July of each year to current students, prospective students and the public. The rate is based on a snap shot look at the body of students from September 1 – October 31th each year. Our 2014-2015 IPEDS Data Collection calculates completion and transfer out rates as follows: The current completion rate is 86% and our retention rate is 73%. The institution does not tract transfer-out rates. A copy of the institutional report is available at the Financial Aid Office.

Instructors work can also be arduous and demanding due to the stressful situations with students, paperwork load such as grading, testing, etc.

Ability to Meet Requirements Set Forth by Employers

Employers require workers to be licensed in their field, have creativity and keep up with the latest trends and be ready to try new hairstyles for their clients. Customer-service skills are a must, employees need to be pleasant, friendly, and be able to interact with customers in order to retain clients. They need to be good listeners and listen carefully to what the client wants in order to make sure that client is happy with the result. Employees should always keep a neat personal appearance and keep their work area clean and sanitary. This requirement is necessary for the health and safety of their clients and for making clients comfortable enough so they will want to return. Last but not least, employees should have time-management skills in scheduling appointments and providing services. Clients who receive timely hair care are more likely to return.
